Lebanon has become a “dead, hopeless” country after its economy rapidly collapsed due to the explosion at the Beirut port in 2018 and the 2020 pandemic. The Lebanese people are struggling to obtain essential resources such as electricity, water, oil, and flour. Once known as the “Paris of the Middle East,” Lebanon has now become a place where people, when asked about their dreams, reply, “To leave this country.” Amidst this situation, the people, once again on the brink of war, are experiencing the fear of death and the despair of passing through a seemingly endless dark tunnel.
This fear stems from the possibility of a recurrence of the nightmare in 2006 when a month-long conflict between Israel and Hezbollah resulted in the deaths of a thousand Lebanese civilians and the displacement of one million refugees. Most Lebanese people, having endured civil war and ongoing religious conflicts, bear wounds and pain from past wars, and they do not know true peace or joy, unable to hope for anything or speak of hope.
Recently, Fouad Shukr, the Hezbollah commander who directed the Mazdal Shams airstrike last weekend, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Haret Hreik area of southern Beirut. This has further heightened the war atmosphere, and many people are fleeing Lebanon. Until now, those who dismissed the skirmishes in the northern region of Israel and southern Lebanon as normal and not problematic now express anxiety and fear, saying that the situation is different from before and that they do not know what will happen.
Tensions are high not only in the southern Beirut region but also in all areas where Hezbollah facilities are located, including the Beqaa region. Lebanese Muslims, filled with anger toward Israel for killing their fellow Muslims, believe they must fight together, yet they also fear that Hezbollah is a force threatening Lebanon’s stability and worry about the possibility of war. Meanwhile, Lebanese Christians, after long-standing conflicts with Islam, seem to have lost compassion, unwilling to intervene in any way and neglecting to care for the needs of others.
Lebanese churches have turned away from the love and forgiveness of the cross, failing to pray for Israel due to the national wounds and pain inflicted by Israel. Some even harbor hatred toward them. However, now is the time for the Lebanese church to pray for Israel. God will raise up the church in Lebanon, which He has left in the Middle East for His glory, and through them, He will fulfill His Word.
Soon, Lebanon will not be regarded as a fertile field, and the fertile field will not be considered a forest. On that day, the deaf will hear the words of the book, and out of gloom and darkness, the eyes of the blind will see. The humble will rejoice in the Lord, and the poor among people will exult in the Holy One of Israel. For the ruthless will come to nothing and the scoffer will cease, and all who watch to do evil will be cut off (Isaiah 29:17-20).
Revival must come to Lebanon, where it is regarded as a fertile field, and the fertile field is considered a forest. When the full number of Gentiles has come in, and salvation has reached the Gentiles, provoking Israel to jealousy, the fullness of the Gentiles will become the fullness of Israel, and revival must come to Lebanon. “On that day,” the deaf in Lebanon will hear the word of God, the blind will see God’s glory, and joy and gladness from God alone will fill Lebanon.
Through the prayers and worship of the Korean church and the global church, we will see forgiveness, love, and true peace and joy, which Lebanon has never experienced before, fill the land that is now full of death’s terror, anger, and hatred due to rumors of war.
The church in Lebanon desires to come before God in worship on behalf of the Muslims in Lebanon, on behalf of Israel. The worship of the Lebanese church will become the worship of Israel and all Muslims, and the prayers of the Lebanese church will become the prayers that lead all nations to remember and return to the Lord.
Thus, we will certainly see the revival of holy prayers and worship in Lebanon and Israel, where the ruthless ruler of death will be annihilated, all arrogance that has exalted itself above God will cease, and those who delight in revenge and seek opportunities for sin will be cut off. We praise Yeshua, who will soon bring about “that day” and reveal His glory!
